Watcombe 4
ALTHOUGH going down in their first league game the scoreline didn’t reflect the game.
The visitors started the better, but Allington’s defence didn’t give anything away, keeping danger man Sean Finch quiet. He ended up going out wide to try and get some joy.
The visitors did take the lead with a header from a deep cross. Allington were now getting into the game with some slick football and got a deserved equaliser.
Tom Harvey’s well-struck shot was parried by the ‘keeper, but Tom Rowdon pounced on the loose ball to drill it across the ‘keeper just inside the far post.
The second half started with both sides probing for the winner. Ben Robey came close when he burst clear but his shot across goal just went the wrong side of the far post.
Once again Robey was in on goal, but just as he was about to shoot he was brought down from behind for what seemed a blatant penalty, but to everyone’s surprise the referee waved play on.
Even the visitors agreed it should have been a spot kick.
Watcombe made the most of this let-off when with six minutes to go they took the lead with a point-blank header after Allington failed to clear a corner.
With Allington pushing forward looking for an equaliser, it left gaps at the back that Finch exploited when he dribbled through to notch a third goal.
At this point Allington dropped a defender and brought on two attacking substitutes to try and get something out of the game.
However, once again Finch broke away and when he went around ‘keeper Matt Weeks he was caught by his outstretched leg, resulting in a penalty and a harsh red card for Weeks.
Josh Pascoe took over in goal but was well beaten by a well-taken spot kick which was the last action of the game to give the visitors a flattering scoreline. The match ball was sponsored by Sid Rowdon.
This week the first team are home to Upton Athletic, 2.30pm kick-off.
