I was both disappointed and dismayed to see no mention in this week’s paper of the achievement of Kingsbridge Tourist Information Centre at the recent Devon Tourism awards.

I had probably expected it to be front page, as this surely is the biggest accolade for the town since Kingsbridge in Bloom triumphed again.

Instead, there was a big feature on a breakfast club at Thurlestone Primary School – great news, much needed – and a new initiative by the foodbank to help address homelessness. Again a much-needed venture.

But no mention even on the inside pages. This seems something of a sleight on Samantha Dennis who tirelessly gives so much of herself not only to the TIC but also to Kingsbridge in general – the chamber of commerce, Kingsbridge Show, Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas and town councillor.

And also to the team of enthusiastic volunteers who offer such a valuable service to visitors and residents alike.

I am one of these individuals who delight in enthusing and informing about our beautiful area as well as providing a valuable central information point for local residents.

I had wondered whether maybe the news had passed you by, but have been assured that this was not the case. I do hope this will be redressed next week.

Of course, some other local organisations won prizes too. But Kingsbridge Information Centre won gold.

Surely our residents deserve to know and share in the pleasure of this recognition.
