Malborough now has a new outdoor gym thanks to a range of people giving time and money to the project.

Donations from Cllr Rufus Gilbert, who gave £2,877 from his Devon County Council locality fund, Cllr Judy Pearce and Cllr Simon Wright, who both gave £1,250 from their South Hams District Council sustainable community and locality funds and a successful bid to the TAP fund of £1,250, supported the project.

Kathy Harrod, the new clerk to the parish council, said: “The original cost of the gym came in at £10,000, however, following some exceptional negotiating thanks to the previous clerk Debbie Ede, the cost was reduced to £8,510 with Malborough Parish Council providing the remainder of the funding, having incorporated a sum in the recent budget.

“Malborough Parish Council are very pro active and when it was recently ascertained that the villagers wanted to incorporate both an ‘access for all’ walk around the village and an outside gym, the previous clerk, Debbie, worked hard to obtain funding to make both a reality.

“We’d like to thank everyone who generously donated time and money to the project and especially to Malborough Village Hall and Playing Fields Association who provided the location for the gym. We look forward to seeing everyone making use of this local facility.”
