TWO girls have raised £150 for the RNLI by selling homemade goods outside of their house in Salcombe.

Poppy, 9 and Lucy, 8, enlisted the help of their siblings and cousins to sell homemade loom bracelets and bead photo frames from their own stall. They also ran a tombola and even sold their Easter eggs to raise money for the charity.

They setup the stall on the steps of Church Lane, making their own signs and then worked in shifts to man the table all day - braving several showers of rain.

By the end of the day, they had raised almost £75 - and with their grandfather’s promise to double whatever money they raised - they proudly presented £150 to Salcombe RNLI last week.

Lucy’s father, James Sessions Hodge is a member of the Salcombe Lifeboat and has previously received an award for his services to the RNLI.

The girls’ aunt Marissa Newman said: ‘We are all blown away and so proud of their hard work and thought at such a young age.

‘The decision was totally their own.’

Jeanne Stevens, volunteer shop manager at the Salcombe Lifeboat Station shop and museum said: ‘They tipped their money onto the counter and then we counted it out together. It was a great job, and perhaps it will encourage other local children to do the same. We gave them an official slip-of-paper to say thank you.’
