A South Hams town is calling for volunteers to make up the town’s snow warden team.

Salcombe Town Council, not wanting to be caught out like it was last year, is hoping to be prepared for the possibility of snow this winter.

Salcombe town clerk, Gill Claydon, said that though huge efforts were made by a tiny group of volunteers during the Storm Emma, the town “simply does not have enough help and cannot guarantee another gritting service” if there is another hard winter.

During Storm Emma, the volunteers worked hard to ensure pavements were clear, and the Spar shop, health centre, fire station, Chandlers Heights, and bus stops were as accessible as possible. However, this small band of people will not be able to adequately grit and clear all of the areas further out of town, so will need all the help they can get.

If you’re interested in helping, contact Gill Claydon at 01548 842282, or the current snow warden Richard Turton at 01548 842847 or 07903 729358.
