On a regular walk to Hope Cove from Bantham, I made a pit stop at South Milton sands.

I was somewhat taken aback by the number of toilet rolls that were in the window sill.

In one cubical were 17 toilet rolls, 15 in the other. Several rolls were scattered on the floor, dirty and wet.

Apart from a waste, to my mind is very unhygienic and why is there no bin?

My question is: why? Are these toilets cleaned on a daily bases?

l Cllr Rufus Gilbert, executive member for Commercial Services at South Hams District Council, said: “In anticipation of a busy weekend at our coastal areas, we often stock up the public conveniences to avoid supplies running out.

“The toilets in question are cleaned at least once a day, and more often if we are made aware of any problems, even at weekends.

“Some of the more heavily used toilets, including South Milton Sands, are cleaned twice a day during the summer.

If you come across a problem in our public toilets, please let us know using www.south hams.gov.uk/reportit.”
