As someone who regularly exercises their dogs on North Sands beach in Salcombe I do not recognise the problem alluded to by Mr D Russell in his recent letter.

By and large, the relationship between dogs and people on the beach is perfectly harmonious.

Many families using the beach during the summer months have dogs, and surely it is beneficial for dogs and children to interact.

Anyone wishing to avoid dogs between May and September can visit South Sands beach where dogs are banned.

Any form of dog restriction would significantly reduce the use and enjoyment of the beach by both local residents and holidaymakers alike.
