FORMER town mayor Wayne Grills has resigned from Kingsbridge Town Council, saying ‘it’s time for a change.’

Wayne Grills joined Kingsbridge Town Council in 2011 at the age of 21.

He became deputy town mayor in 2013, rising to the top job in 2014 for two years.

His time as the town’s mayor came to an end last month, when he passed the chain of office onto Cllr Chris Povey.

Wayne Grills said: ‘I’ve spent 20 per cent of my life on Kingsbridge Town Council, but now it’s time for me to hang up my hat.

‘It’s nothing that anybody has done wrong, I’d just like to devote more of my time to voluntary projects.

Mr Grills is currently secretary of the Coleridge Bus, chair of Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas, is setting up a Rotaract club in the town - a Rotary Club for people aged between 18 and 30 - and he’s also a governor at Kingsbridge Community Primary School.

Mr Grills added: ‘I’d like to see someone under the age of 25 to join the council in my place.

‘Anybody over the age of 18 can be a town councillor.’
