Kingsbridge Town Council is urging residents to ’Have your say’ In what they are calling the ’Last Chance Saloon.’
With less than a week left to give South Hams District council your opinions on the development proposals for a plot of land off Ropewalk, the town council is asking residents to make sure they have filled out either the online survey or return their postal surveys before Wednesday, February 19.
On Wednesday February 5, members from the Kingsbridge Estuary Group, who are lobbying against the prospect of a three-
storey hotel, staged a demonstration.
The group found the graphical representations of the proposed development provided by South Hams
District Council in the survey material very confusing, so members decided to provide their own representation using balloons to show the implication the proposal would have to both residents and the Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The group chose a non-windy day to float four helium balloons vertically above what is assumed to be the four corners of the proposed development.
The balloons were attached to the Heras fencing that currently surrounds the derelict site at the height of a flat roof on a four-
storey building.
A spokesperson for the group said: “We had significant interest from people who were either passing by or who had seen the
balloons from their homes.”
