I heartily endorse the sentiments expressed by P Fenton, Letters, January 5, and I have often thought that all this online trading is affecting local businesses. I, for one, have always shopped locally. With the lovely service we get, why do otherwise?

What is to be done about it, I do not know, for until people realise how they are kiling off local trade, they will continue to bury their heads in the sand – or do I mean computers? – and by doing so picking, a phrase from Dad’s Army: “We are all doomed.”
