A 'Forgotten' rescue cat is desperately looking for a new home after falling out with his fellow feline neighbours.

Two-year-old Nero the cat arrived at South Hams based Woodside Animal and Welfare Sanctuary in March after being taken in as a stray.

Initially housed in the main cat pods, it became clear to the sanctuary that while he adored people, he was less keen on other cats and quickly fell out with his neighbours.

Earlier this summer, he was moved into a former aviary away from the other cats, where he now has plenty of room to roam, toys and comfortable furnishings.

Although Nero is much happier in his new surroundings, his location away from the main catteries means he is often overlooked by visitors looking to adopt.

"Nero is the forgotten cat here," said Woodside Manager Lisa Darcy.

"He is a lovely cat who is a big favourite with the staff."

"He is sweet and friendly with people, but being around other cats makes him bad-tempered."

Lisa added: "He's had to be moved away from the other cats, which has worked really well and his is much happier. However, because of his location away from the main catteries, by the time it comes to looking at him, people have already seen so many other cats that they either quickly forget him or they are not interested."

Nero is described as a happy, affectionate cat who loves food, attention and greeting visitors at the sanctuary, although he is not particularly keen on being picked up.

He is also playful and enjoys spending time in his tunnel, chasing wand toys and playing with catnip.

Having previously lived in a semi-rural location where he had room to explore, Nero would suit a rural home where he could spend time outdoors without encountering many other cats.

“We know there are restrictions because of the cat element and wanting him to be somewhere rural but, given where we are, we know there is somewhere out there for Nero,” Lisa said.

Nero could live with cat-savvy children aged 12 and over and possibly a dog.
