THURLESTONE resident Annabel Hewitt and her friends Lily Watson and Yasmin Nixon have raised nearly £200 for Shelter with a cake sale.
Annabel, 10, was inspired to raise money to help homeless people in the UK after a cold walk with her mum and Barney the dog. She roped in her two friends to help and the trio organised a cake sale.
A group of her friends, who all attend Thurlestone Primary School, came together to bake and help with the organising and they smashed their fundraising target of £100. Through the event, her JustGiving page and people dropping donations through their letterbox, they have raised £188.80.
Mark Hewitt, Annabel’s dad, said: ‘The girls are chuffed to bits and the school has gained extra work from them as they designed posters prepared areas to sell, had a mini PR campaign and even a dose of maths and science as they weighed and baked away!
‘Also in being able, in some small way, to give something back to the community and they gained a great deal of pleasure doing some thing to help others.’
