MODBURY turned on the festive magic with its annual Christmas lights switch-on last weekend.
Church Street and Broad Street were closed to traffic, as a festive parade of music and light processed down the hill.
Despite the drizzle, many people turned up to watch the City of Plymouth Pipe Band lead the way, followed by a vintage bus, the Modbury May Fair royalty, Father Christmas and local schoolchildren with their homemade lanterns.
Modbury’s town crier David Scott welcomed the crowds as they gathered in the centre of the village, before the May king and queen switched on the Christmas lights, brightening up the murky skies.
Father Christmas setup shop in his make-shift grotto, and children flocked to receive early presents while the ukelele band strummed away.
Many of the shops in the town stayed open for late-night shopping, offering mince pies and mulled wine to the public.
There was also a great selection of street entertainment, with hand-bell ringers, a fire juggler and three local choirs including the Kingsmen.
Once again, Modbury welcomed in the Christmas season with a magical evening, attracting many visitors to the town.
