Malborough has decided to tighten up safety requirements for its annual Village Bonfire and Firework Display on Saturday, November 7.
At last year's bonfire and firework display, a number of fireworks reportedly misfired and some people raised concerns about safety.
As a result, extra measures have been taken this year include increasing the safety cordons further from the fire and fireworks, reducing the number of rockets to reduce noise and risk, tightening up launch procedures, and trialling low noise fireworks at the start of the display before bringing in traditional fireworks.
Sparklers also continue to be banned.
Malborough Village Hall & Playing Field Association Secretary Janet Rowse said: “We’ve decided to make the changes in response to people’s comments.
“For example we’re trialling the quieter fireworks as the conventional ones can frighten pets.
“All the changes are being made to keep people safe.”
“Sparklers for example get very hot.”
The Association was founded in 1947 to provide recreational facilities for Malborough and the surrounding area.
It became a charity in 1974 and the current Hall was built around 1975.
Facilities comprise a large hall with stage, and indoor sports area, a smaller meeting room and two kitchens.
The outdoor space includes tennis courts, outdoor gym, football pitches, a wooded area and a skate park.
They traditionally put on two free events - the Summer Fete and Bonfire Night.
The annual funding for the maintenance of the Hall and grounds comes from the income raised from hire of the facilities through the year.
They also receive donations and revenue from sale of sundries at the two big events.
Janet concluded: “Our bonfire and fireworks are a free community event, organised entirely by volunteers, and we want everyone to come along, be safe and have a great evening.
“Safety is always a priority and these changes are part of our commitment to making the event enjoyable for the whole community.”
