TWO local women are cutting almost four feet off their hair for charity next month.
Lizzie Bedford from West Alvington and Sam Wasilewska from Loddiswell have joined together to donate their hair to Little Princess Trust who make wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy, and raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity at the same time.
The cut itself, which will see Lizzie’s locks chopped by nearly two feet and Sam’s by about a foot-and-a-half, will take place at the Crabshell Inn on Friday, February 26.
There will be a raffle with first, second and third prize bundles to be won, Simon will be DJing and there will be an evening of fun and fundraising. Rebekah, Jade and Jodie from Base hair salon in Kingsbridge will be performing the chop.
‘This is a very important issue,’ said Lizzie, who came up with the idea, ‘and with it being something that has hit so close to home for me, I decided what better way to feel less helpless than to raise money for a great cancer charity and help children going through chemotherapy at the same time.
‘?You can’t make the cancer go away for them, but hopefully we can give money for research to find the cure faster.’
‘It may just be “getting a hair cut” to some people,’ said Sam, ‘but if you’re a woman with long hair, you’ll know how important it can be to you, and to be able to donate our hair to a child who has lost theirs is a great privilege and can make a real difference to their lives.
‘I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been affected by cancer in some shape or form, I know I have been, and anything we can do to raise money to help the fight against this indiscriminate disease is a step in the right direction, in my opinion.’
Lizzie and Sam would like to thank the Crabshell Inn for hosting the event, Martyn Norsworthy of Norsworthy Photography for taking the photos, local businesses for donating to the raffle and Base hair salon in Kingsbridge who are donating their fee for the haircut to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
