Rotary Club raises money for three charities.
The Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club held their annual Charity Golf day at the Thurlestone Golf Club on May 23.
The event raised a total of £7,000, including £1,010 from the raffle, which was donated to three charities. The money was raised by the 42 teams that participated in the event, alongside substantial donations from local businesses and individuals.
The three charities donated to were BRACE, Devon Freewheelers, and Tumbly Hill Day Centre.
BRACE received a cheque for £4,000, and is a charity that supports medical research into dementia. The charity provides grants to research teams at universities and hospitals in the south west including both Plymouth and Exeter medical centres.
Devon Freewheelers, also known as Blood Bikes, provides an out-of-hours courier service to the NHS and received £2,600.
The third charity was Tumbly Hill Day Centre, based in Kingsbridge, which received £550, enabling it to erect a greenhouse at the Slapton Ley Field Centre for the elderly with learning disabilities.
The Creek’s End team of Steve Pike, Kevin Rogers, and Alan Mahar, were the winning team, with a score of 88 Stableford points. The Coast and Country Cottages team of Jon Doyle, Dave Doyle, and Ashley Crow, were second also with 88 points, but lost on the back nine holes.
The Rotary Club wish to thank Sabre Financial and Insurance Services and the Thurlestone Hotel who are the main sponsors of the event, the businesses, the individuals and the players. They especially thank the Thurlestone Golf Club and its staff and members, who allow them to use the course and facilities for the day.
The event is being held again next year at Thurlestone Golf Club on May 23.
