THE leaning wall at Eastern Backway that runs between Duncombe Park and Church Street is currently being removed.

Eastern Backway in Kingsbridge has been closed for around eight months due to the dangerously leaning wall and South Hams District Council and Devon Building Control started work to remove the dangerous section on Wednesday, May 11.

A SHDC spokesman said: ‘South Hams District Council and Devon Building Control have been working in partnership to remove the wall on Eastern Back Way in Kingsbridge.

‘Despite our best efforts, the owner of the wall could not be located and consequently we carried out the emergency works.

‘The wall was deemed a dangerous structure and needed to be removed as soon as possible to make the passageway and car parking areas safe for residents. The Council funded the removal and Devon Building Control have organised a contractor to carry out these essential works.

‘The only access to the wall was through Church Close and car parking area. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the works to residents of Church Close, the action taken was to ensure that the wall did not injure residents in the area or damage resident’s cars.

‘The works have been undertaken swiftly and will be finished by the end of the week - May 16.’
