THERE is now a way to look into Kingsbridge’s past as an important trading port thanks to the Kingsbridge Estuary Decorative Fine Arts Society.

Busy and bustling, with ships unloading exotic goods along the key, Kingsbridge was a hive of activity and noise, sails billowing and ships berthed. It is hard to imagine the scene today, but if you follow a new, free, self-guided trail, you can find out about Kingsbridge’s maritime past as you explore the town.

A Young Arts initiative funded by KEDFAS - Kingsbridge Estuary Decorative Fine Arts Society, the Trail – Tales from the Quays – is a fun way to ‘see’ into the town’s past. Although it is aimed at primary school children, it is proving just as popular with parents and grandparents too.

Find out where some of the fastest schooners of their day were built, what pirates stole from the town, how much further inland the water came and walk in the steps of the unfortunate Excise Man.

Pick up your free copy of Tales from the Quays from Kingsbridge Cookworthy Museum, St Edmund’s Church, Kingsbridge Library, the Kingsbridge Information Centre; or Café Decks in the Recreation Park and start your maritime adventure – all on dry land.
