You can now have a game of table tennis in two different locations in the centre of Kingsbridge.

Table tennis is one of the most accessible sports around, it can be played at any level from the Olympics to an impromptu game in your garden, and now Kingsbridge Town Council has purchased a mobile table for the Bandstand and installed a permanent table in the Recreation Ground.

Both table tennis tables are top quality for all ages and abilities to enjoy and have fun!

The table tennis table for the Bandstand, next to the Town Square, will be positioned during half term and throughout the summer holidays. Timings will vary due to local events taking place but the table will be in position from 9.30am to 12.30pm, Monday to Friday, along with some afternoons and Saturdays.

You can bring along your own bats and balls to use, or they can be hired for free from the reception at the Council Offices, Quay House, for a £5 refundable deposit. Alternatively, they can be purchased from Kingsbridge Information Centre in the Town Square.

In the Recreation Ground, a permanent outdoor table has been installed following a successful funding bid to the Tesco Bags of Choice scheme. Bats and balls can be hired for free from Café Decks, again with a refundable £5 deposit.

Kingsbridge Town Council said: “Thanks to everyone who voted for us! In the last 10 years the Town Council has worked hard to enhance the park from its sorry former state, with two rusty old swings only, to its present status as the sole Green Flag park in the South Hams.

“The table tennis table adds to an exciting menu which includes a children’s play area, teen zone, café, putting green, floodlit tennis courts, bowling green, sensory flower beds, picnic tables, French boules court, public benches, five-a-side goalposts, sculpture and Trim Trail exercise equipment.

“Please enjoy this great facility; the only thing we ask is for dog owners to keep their pets on leads. Moving forward, we hope to install stainless steel litter bins here and in Duncombe Park.”

Councillor Anne Balkwill, Town Mayor, said: “Everyone loves playing ‘ping pong’ as it’s fantastic fun whether you are a novice or an expert, and a surprisingly good workout.”
