A new exhibition at Harbour House in Kingsbridge invites visitors to explore the complex relationships between farm animals, human care and the industrial systems that shape animal lives.
Knowing Me, Knowing You, by Cornwall-based artist Georgia Gendall, brings together sculpture, film and drawing to examine how animal bodies are measured, recorded and transformed within systems of farming and food production.
The exhibition asks what it means to know another living body, and what remains when that body is no longer there.
Bringing together the anatomical and the mechanical, Gendall transforms familiar aspects of farming and animal husbandry into unexpected artworks.
Across the exhibition, organic materials take on technological forms, while machinery and rudimentary breeding technologies become part of the landscape of animal production.
In one unexpected twist, familiar karaoke classics take on a more unsettling role, becoming almost like cries for help.
The exhibition has particular relevance to the South Hams, where agriculture remains an important part of the local landscape, economy and community identity.
The exhibition will open on Saturday, December 5 as part of Kingsbridge Celebrates Christmas.
Visitors are invited to drop into Harbour House for a free festive workshop, where people of all ages can make their own Christmas tree decorations.
Following the workshop, Harbour House will host a free opening celebration in the gallery, with complimentary mince pies and mulled apple juice.
Visitors can also take part in a free drawing activity inspired by the exhibition, exploring themes of farming, sheep and the local landscape.
Using colourful crayons traditionally used by farmers to mark their sheep, visitors can create their own artwork to display at Harbour House or take home.
Georgia Gendall’s multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, performance, film, writing, photography and participatory work.
Her work explores interspecies relationships, ecological connections and the environments and systems we inhabit, often embracing humour, absurdity, risk and collaboration.
Knowing Me, Knowing You runs at Harbour House, Kingsbridge, from December 5 2026 to February 27 2027. Admission is free.
