Once again, hundreds of people turned out for Hope Cove Weekend over the bank holiday.

The event was bathed in sunshine on Friday night, Saturday and Monday - Sunday sadly was wet during the day, but didn’t stop all having a great evening watching the fantastic Penguins.

Live music started on Friday night and went on all weekend, there was also morning beach yoga, the Jogger’s Race, the Kayak Race, the Paddleboard Race, a pasty-eating competition, a fancy-dress competition, a treasure hunt, Tug of War, sandcastle competitions, rockpool competitions, the Land and Sea Race, fishing competition and much more to keep visitors entertained day and night.

Ken Riley, secretary, said: “Wow what an event! In the main warm weather and a great turn out, our visitors travelled from all over the country to be here. Boats on the water, children playing on the beach building sand castles and eagerly taking part in all sorts of competitions.

“Picnics, hog roast, hot dogs, burgers and a really good variety of stalls this year. Local businesses excelled in providing a variety of delicious beverages and food, it was paradise. Hope Cove rocked with music and fun from dawn to dusk and beyond, then after dark the amazing fireworks followed by the hugely popular Filthy Gorgeous.

“We really did see numbers swell for the music on the outside stage in the evenings and all happily sung along (particularly after a few refreshments)!

“The committee would like to thank all the helpers and volunteers who filled all the voids and made it a Great Hope Cove Weekend, without them it really couldn’t happen. The list of people that need thanking is extensive and can’t all be covered in a short article, but the committee passed on a huge thanks to you all (you know who you are!).

“A special mention should be made to Will and Annalese, however, who were applauded by many for a great programme this year. This weekend would not be possible without the selfless dedication of all these people, and I know that we will have raised a significant sum for our charities.”

You can follow Hope Cove Weekend on Facebook and find details about the weekend generally on their new website (www.hopecoveweekend.com), make sure you keep August Bank Holiday weekend 2019 free!
