There is now a defibrillator at South Sands, Salcombe, adding to the three that are already in the heart of the town.
The installation was organised by the Salcombe Rotary Club, who used funds raised from the annual Salcombe Crabfest, and was partly funded by each of the businesses located at South Sands.
Peter Ralph realised that the nearest defibrillator was in Salcombe, which is a drive that can take at least 15 to 20 minutes during high season, “by which time it would be too late”.
Mr Ralph, who is the co-organiser for Salcombe Crabfest, got together with the businesses located at South Sands and suggested that they use the funds raised from Crabfest to purchase and fund the defibrillator. The businesses happily agreed to help with the community project.
The funds raised from Crabfest went towards the actual machine, and the businesses banded together to fund the box to house it in.
The new defibrillator is located on the exterior wall of the South Sands Hotel, adjacent to the old lifeboat house.
