HORIZONS have secured funding from Active Devon to support the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign and are now running girls-only exercise classes.
The activities, running on Fridays from February 24 through March as part of the regular Youth Leisure Night sessions, will give girls the opportunity to learn Street Dance - February 24, Yoga - March 3 and take part in Boot Camp/Boxercise session in March.
‘Thanks to funding from Active Devon, we are able to be part of Sport England’s 2017 "This Girl Can" campaign’ explained youth worker, Julie Hinder. ‘The aim is to get girls and women participating in physical activity, have fun and to break down the barriers and fear of judgement that is stopping too many girls from joining in.’
There will also be 40 discounted entry vouchers for girls who participate in these sessions, as well as the chance to win Kings Cinema tickets or Coasters coffee vouchers.
Youth Leisure Night runs on Friday evenings between 7.30-9.30pm, and is a partnership between the Family Advice Support Team and Quayside Leisure Centre.
It offers all young people, from Year 8 up to the age of 19, the chance to be part of a sports-based youth club. They can take part in sports such as football, badminton, basketball and table tennis, with use of the swimming pool and gym too.
Trampolining, a bouncy castle and circus skills are also part of the mix on a regular basis, as well as coaching sessions from local instructors.

Youth Leisure Night would also welcome local instructors and clubs getting in touch to discuss opportunities to participate.
