A FUNDRAISING dinner organised by the Macmillan Kingsbridge and Salcombe fundraising committee raised £1,550 at the Cottage Hotel in Hope Cove.
Attended by over 60 people, the dinner provided an opportunity for the fundraising committee to say thank you to all whose who supported Macmillan during the past year.
In addition to the diners who bought tickets, there was a shooting party of visitors at the hotel who energetically took part in the draw, auctioned some wine and were extremely generous.
Julie Thompson, chairman of the Kingsbridge and Salcombe fundraising committee said: ‘We have been so fortunate over this past year to have the support of both the local community and visitors. Their support is vital to our fundraising efforts and we want to say a very big thank you.’
Tricia Heard from the Macmillan Cancer Support volunteer forum told the diners that since 1994, the Kingsbridge and Salcombe fundraising committee had raised £342,448 and congratulated them on their efforts.
Tricia said: ‘The money raised helps people who have been diagnosed with cancer to take control of their lives. There are many ways in which Macmillan helps, such as cancer nurse specialists, grants for those who find it financially difficult, benefits advisors, the Mustard Tree at Derriford Hospital and the Macmillan Support Line. We thank everyone for their support.’
