A FREE course, teaching the basics of emergency life support is being held in the annexe of Malborough village hall on Monday, November 9.

The skills taught at this session are simple and can save lives - instructing people in the basic set of actions needed to keep someone alive until professional help arrives.

They include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, dealing with choking, serious bleeding and helping someone that may be having a heart attack.

The British Heart Foundation have stated that 30,000 people suffer cardiac arrests outside of hospitals every year, but only 10 percent survive. Every minute without CPR cuts survival rates by 10 percent and after 10 minutes, a person only has a two percent chance of survival.

The training sessions is being run by the Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club under the auspices of the BHF.

The course can accommodate up to 24 people, and places can be booked at Malborough post office.

The annexe will be open from 6.30pm, and the training session will start at 7pm.
