The children in Hazel Class at Salcombe Primary School received a visited from a Roman soldier recently.
The day was planned to support the pupils in studying Romans history. The children dressed up as Roman Britons and spent the morning looking at artefacts and replicas of clothing, jewellery and weapons used.
A Roman soldier the arrived to inform the children that the Romans were on their way to southern Britain and they had an important decision to make.
The pupils had to choose whether to fight the Romans or accept subjugation by Rome. The Roman soldier let the pupils try some of his weapons before receiving military training.
Peter Davies-Kemp from Hazel Class said: "The best part of the day was watching the weapons get thrown."
Honey Getley said: "I learnt that Roman swords were really expensive so only rich people had them, everyone else had spears."
