Primary school pupils made art and design projects using plastic using rubbish collected with beach cleans.
Year 3 pupils from Thurlestone Academy participated in an art and creative design technology workshop with Nicky Bailey, the community projects officer from South Devon AONB; Emma Reece, area ranger from the National Trust; and Alison Burn, National Trust volunteer, on Thursday, September 13.
Natasha Kostka, higher level teaching assistant at the school, said: “The children spent the morning making gull lanterns out of empty plastic milk bottles and decorating a huge mermaid, using the rubbish collected from community beach cleans.
“They equally wrote their pledge to the environment on paper bags, promising to use less plastic and take care of the world around them!
“The activities were educational and thoroughly enjoyed by all. Anyone who went to the Big Night at the Beach will have seen the pupils’ crafts displayed on South Milton Sands. The lantern parade was simply magical!
“A huge thank you to the ladies for coming in and working with our pupils.”
