KINGSBRIDGE Community Primary School’s PTFA held its annual Summer Fair and raised more than £4,000.
On Friday, July 1, a staggering £4,247.56 was raised which will go towards the primary school’s memorable experiences for each year group.
With nearly 500 in attendance, including some very excited Kingsbridge Primary school children, their parents, past pupils and town locals, a great time was had by all.
As well as the traditional soaking of Year 6 pupils, there was lots to entertain the family with games such as Burst the Balloon, Splat the Rat and Guess the Name of the Teddy as well as a bouncy castle courtesy of Crunchy Carrot and entertainment by the school choir and KCC Buskers.
The highly anticipated Total Wipeout was as popular as ever. Teams of four competed against each other with the fastest team to complete the course being the overall winners. Course included throwing wet sponges over a wall to be caught on the other side, dressing up, a relay race with bucket of water on their heads, finding wooden stars out of a bucket of ‘gunk’ and plank walking.
There was also a Tombola with some amazing prizes such as luxury hampers, a spa day treat from Salcombe Harbour Hotel, artwork by Jane Foster, a family portrait voucher from Martin Norsworthy, a sports bag from Anchor Sports.
Complimentary tickets to Dartmoor Zoo, South Devon Railway, The Miniature Pony Centre, River Dart Country Park, Torquay United, Plymouth Ski Centre and the Living Coast as well as vouchers from The The Creeks End, Mahabarat, Cafe Asia, the Dodbrooke Inn, Pizza Planet, The Regal, Avon Mill and South Sands Hotel to name but a few. All prizes were kindly donated by local businesses and attractions.
Visitors also enjoyed a wide variety of food and drink with a lamb roast, barbecue, Pimm’s and wine bar, sweets and homemade cake stalls all on offer.
Christine Slaughter, head teacher, said of the event: ‘It was a wonderful evening, enjoyed by all, thanks to the hard work of the PTFA and the generosity of our parents, the local community and businesses.’
Abigail Spearing, Chairman of the PTFA also said: ‘It was great to see everyone having such great time and I would particularly like to thank the generous local businesses that sponsored the Summer Fair: Bartons Solicitors, Herring Shoes, Paul Carpenter Associates, Tally Ho!, Salcombe Embroiderers, Habit and Nick Walker who printed our banner.
‘I would also like to thank the many parents, PTFA members, staff and local businesses who gave their time, donations and tombola prizes which all helped enable the event to be such a success.’
