THREE students from Kingsbridge Community College travelled up to Tiverton to take part in the regional heat of a national debating competition.

Sam Brizio, Lulu Spanton and Andrew Hurrell travelled to Blundell’s School on Tuesday, April 12 accompanied by Miss Ellis, to take part in Up For Debate.

They had to argue that violent video games should be banned, and that child labour in poorer countries can never be justified.

They won both of these debates with flying colours, setting them in the running for the final round.

Unfortunately, they narrowly lost the impromptu debate round, where they were given just fifteen minutes to prepare their presentation arguing that everyone should be vegetarian.

Although the team didn’t win overall, Andrew Hurrell was deemed by the judges to be in the top five speakers of the day, while Sam Brizio won the overall prize for being the best speaker in the whole competition.
