The East Allington Whacky Races committee has handed over a cheque for £1,000 to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

The committee gathered at the Fortescue Arms, East Allington, on Saturday, February 3, where DAAT volunteer Rex Brown was presented with a cheque by Whacky Races committee.

East Allington Whacky Races is an exciting downhill go-kart race which sees homemade karts compete against the clock to be crowned winner. A family fun-day with stalls, activities and refreshments takes place alongside the racing.

The 2017 event raised £2,000 with half the proceeds going to the DAAT and the rest divided between a variety of local groups and events within the village.

Vicky Hatch, chairman of the East Allington Whacky Races Committee, said: “We were delighted with how much last year’s Whacky Races raised and would like to thank everyone who made it possible.

“We are very grateful to the businesses who sponsored the event and everyone who helped or simply came along to spend their money on the day. We hope to see you all again later in the year.”

This year’s Whacky Races will take place on Saturday, September 29, and entries are now open. You can get an entry form or more information by emailing: [email protected] and you can follow them on Facebook.
