I’m no theologian, but in reply to Martyn Tozer’s letter last week, the Nazi regime slaughtered an estimated 19 million men, women, children and infants in death camps alone, not to ­mention the cruelty and terror inflicted on civilians in the ­countries they invaded, who lost their lives from bombs, tanks and torture, and later starvation.

As terrible as the bombing of Dresden was, had Nazi Germany not been defeated, the entire Jewish population of Europe, including British jewry, would have been murdered.

So thank God the Nazis were defeated – trade or no trade.
