PEOPLE flocked to see the displays at the Marine Awareness Day in Salcombe on Saturday.
PC Jo Pengilly and PCSO Dave Gibson organised the event, with agencies such as the Police, First Responders, RNLI, Salcombe Security Solutions and the RNLI Lifeguards on hand to give people information on staying safe near the water.
A steady flow of people came to Whitestrand car park to learn about marine awareness and Ali Jones, Sea N Shore was also giving lifejackets a free safety check to make sure they were up to standard.
The First Respon-ders managed to raise enough money to fund their fuel for two months and money was also donated to the Devon Air Ambulance.
The winner of the Salcombe Primary School poster competition was picked at the event. The pupils were given the challenge of designing a poster to be used to promote safety and crime prevention.
Tabitha Pearce, 9, was judged to be the winner and received her prize – a family membership for a year to Dartmoor Zoo – at the school on Thursday.
PC Jo Pengilly and PCSO Dave Gibson thanked all who attended and made the Marine Awareness Day possible. 'There was very positive feedback and we hope to run this event again in 2016', said PC Pengilly.
