Residents gathered at Whitestrands car park in Salcombe for Christmas carols yesterday.

The Rotary Club of Salcombe held their annual carol service in the centre of the town with complimentary mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine.

The Rotary Club of Salcombe are a 21st century Rotary Club offering a lighter and more focussed approach, providing friendship and fundraising for the local community. The group meet every Tuesday at the Royal Oak in Malborough at 6pm.

All donations made from the festive evening were being put towards local charities selected by the Rotary.

A number of local charities are supported by the Rotary as well as supporting charity initiatives worldwide, especially eradicating Polio in association with Bill Gates and his foundation.

The club also organise the Salcombe Crabfest alongside the support of local business partners including Salcombe TIC, Favis of Salcombe and Coast and Country Cottages.

The event was created to celebrate the local Salcombe Crab and fishing industry to create a family friendly event attracting local people and holidaymakers in order to raise money for charitable causes.
