Builders, architects and their clients have received prestigious awards for building excellence in projects across South and West Devon.
Admiral Court, Dartmouth - EBC Limited, won the Best Industrial award, The Royal Dart, Kingswear - Gillespie Yunnie Architects/Darthaven Marina/Swift Construction Management won the Best Conversion award.
Spindrift, Salcombe - Harrison Sutton Partnership/EaseManage won the Best Individual Dwelling award, Offshore, Stoke Fleming - Cavanna Homes won the Best Large Development award and Quayside, Totnes - Galliford Try Partnerships/Mitchell Architects won Best Specialist Residential award.
The awards were presented by Devon Building Control Partnership at a ceremony in Old Forde House, Newton Abbot, on March 15.
The partnership, representing three local authorities – Teignbridge, South Hams and West Devon, held the awards to showcase buildings and design teams that have had to tussle with complex technical or construction issues and building site constraints.
The awards celebrate innovative and creative solutions and building control professionalism that leads to safe, sustainable and high quality construction projects.
The winning entries were nominated by DBCP professional surveyors operating across the three councils who visited the sites during 2017. Judges considered entries across nine categories and there were so many outstanding projects this year, that along with the nine winning projects there were 24 highly commended ones too.
Andrew Carpenter, head of Devon Building Control Partnership, said: “Our surveyors inspected well over 2,000 projects during 2017. Many of these were well managed by those designing and building them, which included involving ourselves from an early stage.
“I am delighted that this resulted in so many nominations, demonstrating the ability and willingness to achieve high standards.”
Cllr Michael Hicks, chairman of Devon Building Control Partnership and South Hams District Council’s vice-chairman, said: “The Devon Building Control Partnership awards are an opportunity for the industry in South and West Devon to celebrate good practice. Our winners demonstrate how positive working relationships with our surveying teams achieve high quality, sustainable buildings.
“Our awards recognise how this cooperation improves building standards and professionalism across the industry.”
Devon Building Control Partnership, now in its 15th year of operation, delivers building control services to businesses and householders across Teignbridge, South Hams, West Devon and Dartmoor National Park.
