I would like to take the opportunity to respond to Steve Grey’s letter of September 7 with regard to the ‘bedroom tax’.

I currently pay the ‘bedroom tax’ myself, despite being disabled, because our spare room is needed for my daughter when she comes to stay to help look after me.

The ‘bedroom tax’ is cruel and affects more vulnerable tenants than any other.

I have previously campaigned for an end to this punishing levy and will continue to do so.

The Labour Party pledged to end this tax in its 2017 manifesto, and I wholeheartedly agree with its pledge.

I hope my views are clear, Steve: I would like to see an end to this tax as soon as possible.

I would also like to see councils and housing associations do more to help tenants downsize when they ask their landlords for assistance.
