LAST month, a team from Absolute Dental in Kingsbridge took part in the Pretty Muddy 5k at Westpoint in Exeter to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The course saw the team taking on inflatable obstacles that were surrounded by mud and water, crawling under and over cargo nets, through muddy tunnels and racing on space hoppers. All encouraged by the enthusiastic marshals with their industrial water pistols!

The team decided to take on the challenge at the end of last year to support their colleague Maureen who was battling cancer at the time. Unfortunately, Maureen died in April of this year, and the practice and Maureens’ patients were deeply saddened.

This spurred the team on to try and raise as much money as possible to fight the disease. The team felt Maureen was there with them on the day driving them on to complete the challenge in style.

As they crossed the finish line, they sought out the practices’ clinical director, Rhodri John, who couldn’t take part in this ladies only event, and gave him a huge muddy hug!

In total the team raised more than £1,500 with donations still being received.
