A VAN has ended up on its roof near Sorely Cross this morning, but no one was injured.
Kingsbridge Fire Station and Kingsbridge Police were called to the incident at 10am on Tuesday, January 26, and found a white Citroen van on its roof outside Parkland campsite, between Sorley Cross and Leigh Cross on the A381.
The driver was out of the vehicle and unhurt by the time emergency services were on scene. No other vehicles were involved. The driver, a local delivery driver who asked not to be named, said: ‘A plastic bag was blown over the road. It hit the drivers side bonnet and windscreen. I started to slow down from the 45mph that I was doing and the back swerved out and put me into the bank.‘The van was an 02 plate non turbo. I couldn't sped if I tried as its such a short distance from the roundabout there going towards sorely cross junction.'I'd also like to say thank you to James Parker from Parkland. If he hadn't have been there, organised the police and a cup of coffee with a level head it could have been worse'.
Sergeant Dave Green, Kingsbridge Police, said: ‘The advice from police is to take account of the road conditions in bad weather. At this time of year the road surfaces are slippery with wet leaves and puddles that can easily lure the unsuspecting driver into losing control.’
The road was closed in both directions intermittently for around an hour-and-a-half. Sgt Green said: ‘Our thanks to motorists for their patience’.
