Salcombe RNLI are holding their annual lifeboat open day on Bank Holiday Monday, where you can find out all about the crew.

Held between 10.30am and 4pm, the open day will see both the lifeboats, the Baltic Exchange III all weather lifeboat, and Joan Bate, the inshore lifeboat, and they will be open to the public, so you can go onboard, take some pictures, sit in the crew seats and find out what it’s like to be part of the RNLI crew.

There will also be a barbecue, a coin line, and you can play ‘Hunt the Crew’.

The open day will take place on Monday, May 27, at the Salcombe RNLI station, Custom House Quay, Salcombe, TQ8 8BZ.

Three days later, on Thursday, June 1, there will also be a demonstration of the Salcombe RNLI crew working with the search and rescue helicopters in the Salcombe Estuary.

Always an impressive display, you can watch them lift and drop crew members from the lifeboat to the chopper and back again, with expert precision.

This will take place between 11.30am and 12pm, with the best vantage points being along the estuary by Cliff House.
