KINGSBRIDGE Police proved they don’t always deal with crime and assaults don’t always come from people, when they were called to a lost calf.

The local milkman who had come across a nearly newborn calf, with umbilical chord still attached, in the middle of Derby Road called police at around 2am on Monday morning.

Police attended and with no sign of the mother and after attempting to contact local farmers, they managed to get a rope around it, but not before the animal managed to give one of the officers a swift butt to his unmentionables.

Despite this assault to one of their crown jewels, the officers persevered and commandeered the milk float to take the calf to South Moor Vets.

A spokesman for South Moor Vets confirmed that the calf was now back where he was supposed to be and is reunited with his mum. A happy ending for the calf at least.
