Police are warning South Hams residents to be aware of scammers operating.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "We have received reports of the following scam taking place recently.
"Residents have received automated phone calls stating to be from HMRC about non payment/prosecution or similar.
"An instruction is then given to press a number - please do not follow instructions – this is a scam."
Residents who are concerned are asked to phone the police’s non-emergency number 101 or email [email protected].
The spokesperson added: "If you have fallen victim to a scam, please report this to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/
