A MAN has been charged with arson, following numerous fires being deliberately started in Kingsbridge in October.

The attacks included a car being set alight in the car park of the Kings Arms, as well as rubbish bins and other items of street furniture in and around Fore Street.

This week, Barry Treharne, 33, from Newport, Gwent, was charged with arson. He has been bailed to attend Torquay Magistrates Court.

Mr Treharne had been employed stay in the Kings Arms hotel and clear the hotel car park of cars in anticipation of its sale.

A spokesman for Kingsbridge police said: ‘We would like to thank those members of the community who gave up their time to make statements and provide evidence which enabled us to catch and prosecute this man.’
