POLICE officers from Kingsbridge apologised for any disturbance after they arrested a man with a stolen collection tin.

In the early hours of New Years Eve, officers stopped and spoke to a 40-year-old man on the Town Square in Kingsbridge. After utilising their stop and search powers, he was found to be hiding a Devon Air Ambulance collection tin that had been stolen from Kingsbridge.

A further search revealed a quantity of controlled drugs.

A spokesman for the police in Kingsbridge said: ‘He was taken to Kingsbridge Police Station where he was to be transferred into the secure van but unfortunately, vehicle issues meant that officers had to call for assistance for a van from another station.

‘During that time he tried to assault officers so had to be restrained. He was very vocal so our apologies to anyone who was disturbed by his shouting.’

He has been charged with a couple of offences, with others being investigated further.
