A CAR caught fire on Lower Union Road on this afternoon, igniting an adjacent car before crews from Kingsbridge Fire Station extinguished the blaze.
The grey Renault Laguna caught fire just after midday on Tuesday and the engine bay was quickly engulfed in flames. It in turn set fire to a grey Renault Clio, which was parked bonnet to bonnet to the car on Lower Union Road.
Kingsbridge Fire crew extinguished the fire using a high-pressure hose and breathing apparatus, using a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots. They made sure the vehicles were safe by isolating the electrics wherever possible.
Mike Trembath, Kingsbridge Fire Service, said: ‘The exact cause of the fire is unknown but it appears to have started in the engine bay’.
The owners of both cars were located and the scene was left in the hands of the police. Rowan Sutton was nearby and took photos of the blaze and caught the fire crews initial attack on the fire on video. You can watch it on our Facebook page.
