SDFL division one
Totnes and Dartington seconds 0,
Beesands Rovers 5
Having gained their first league win a fortnight ago with a resounding five goals and none conceded, Beesands were keen to build on that emphatic display.
And build on it they certainly did. While the play throughout was end to end, the only real threats came from the Bees attacks.
From the kick off the ball was laid back to full back Tom Harvey, who passed down the wing for Dave Lang. He advanced and his cross was dummied by Finn Bullen, allowing Danny Tucker to strike home to take the lead within 20 seconds.
Lang was enjoying success against the young full-back, turning him inside out but seeing his cross evade his colleagues.
Bees continued attacking with a desire to make their advantage pay. A lovely exchange of passes between Lee Morgan and Elliot Bellamy saw the latter’s shot hit the side netting.
What would have been a Bees second goal was harshly penalised as a push by Lang that could have cost the Bees dearly as T and D broke away but Bromfield made another great recovery tackle to clear. Again the Bees had the ball in the net, this time by Morgan, but his effort was given as offside.
Five minutes before the break the Bees doubled their lead when Morgan, from a wide position, struck a cross-cum-shot that nestled in the top corner of the net, 0-2.
The second half commenced as the first had finished. A rare T and D attack saw them one-on-one with the ‘keeper before Harvey got back and cleared at the expense of a corner that was handled easily and Toby Harvey’s clearance found Morgan, who laid the ball off to Bullen but his shot hadn’t enough power to trouble the T and D ‘keeper.
Bellamy showed great determination to hold on to the ball, pass a defender and pass to Morgan, who swung a sweet foot at the ball to see it nestle in the corner of the net 0-3.
The fourth goal arrived when Bullen’s acrobatic attempt was beaten out by the ‘keeper as far as Morgan, whose attempt hit the woodwork and bounced out to Tucker. His first shot hit the woodwork but he followed up and hit it home for 0-4.
T and D’s best effort was a free kick struck over the defensive wall and bouncing back off the bar before Garner cleared it.
Harvey had a shot just wide. Great work from Morgan to hold the ball and he cut inside looked up and passed to Tucker whose shot was high.
TJ Lang replaced his tired brother Dave. Harvey was putting in a man of the match display with some robust defending. Great work between Tucker and Bullen saw the youngster slot home for 0-5. Bullen, having run his socks off, was replaced by Dave Harvey. Tucker, looking to add to his goal tally, shot wide from outside the area and followed up with a shot saved.
The half came to an end with D Harvey seeing a shot blocked and TJ Lang’s follow up shot blocked.
The man-of-the-match award went to Tom Harvey.
Beesands play on Saturday in the Firewatch Devon Senior Cup at home versus Roselands, kick off at 2pm. All are welcome to come and support the Bees.
