After a long winter of golf, Robin Leach and his partner Matt Nadin won the Lawson Cup, the prize for winning the winter league writes Rosemary Sharps.

Their final match was played in atrocious weather conditions against the pairing of Steven Inch and Darren Mutton.

By the 13th tee Robin and Matt were six up but their opponents made a comeback by winning the next three holes. However, the final result went to Robin and Matt, winning three and two.

Matt said a thank you should go to Martin Lowry, who also suffered the adverse conditions to referee the match.

A game of golf with friends left David Thornton buying everyone in the clubhouse a drink when he shot a hole-in-one on the par-three 15th.

Being an elevated green, David and his friends didn't have the pleasure of watching the ball drop into the hole, and on approaching the green, and only seeing two balls, David thought his ball had shot through the back of the green and was out of sight.

However, to his and his friends' delight, the said ball was sitting neatly in the hole.

'It was a fantastic feeling' said David. This is his first hole-in-one and hopefully there will be more. Congratulations.

Last week 41 players took to the course in glorious weather. Andy Kings came in first when he posted a score of 39 points, Barry Lee, Peter Lucas and Liam Limber all came in with 37 and Bob Davies scored 36.

Captain Mick Gates and club professional Nigel Blenkarne played their first Babbage match on Friday against challengers Alan Maher and Mike Gorringe.

Mick and Nigel took a two up win, which Nigel described as an ideal result for their first match.
