THE Youth and Business Achievement Awards, the YABAAs, are now in their second year, with a ceremony next month in Kingsbridge.
The awards are for recognising, celebrating and inspiring local 16–24-year-olds and local businesses to continue to jointly building a positive productive community to work and live in, organised by the 16-24 Work Club, Kingsbridge.
A spokesman for the YABAAs said: ‘This is especially important to build on this in tourist areas such as Kingsbridge and Salcombe were work can be of a seasonal nature.’
The awards are open to all 16-14-year-olds in the local area and highlight the importance of ensuring young people are ‘work ready’, blending the benefits of external and in-house training, online learning and apprenticeships.
A night of networking and hospitality will be waiting for the local young people and local businesses, and the seven awards categories will be awarded.
The seven awards to be given will be Apprentice of the Year - sponsored by Sabre Financial, Apprentice Employer of the Year, Learner of the Year - sponsored by Pebbles of Salcombe, Mentor/Volunteer/Enabler of the Year - sponsored by Hair Advice Centre, the Most Entrepreneurial 16-24-year-old, - sponsored by the Victoria Inn, and the Jack Tanner Legacy Award for an exceptionally inspiring 16–24-year-old, who has motivated others to reach their potential.
LA Lighting and Media, run by two local college students Luke and Adam, will be running the event for the second time and the photography will be done by Max Styles, a student at Plymouth University who is studying photography.
The judges will be Susan Fish - chairman of Spiritulized Trustees, Simon Gotch - chairman of Skills Training UK and Samantha Short – manager of Kingsbridge Information Centre and vice chair of Salcombe and Kingsbridge Chamber of Commerce.
The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 29, at 7.45pm at Costa in Kingsbridge. For more information, visit the website: www.kingsbridgeworkclub.com or check out the Facebook page: 16-24 Work Club Kingsbridge or on Twitter: @KBWorkClub with the hashtag #2016YABAAs
