EAST Allington’s Whacky Races saw an impressive crash last year, which has been featured on the BBC.
‘Close Calls on Camera’ told of lucky escapes and was aired on BBC One in January, featuring footage of Rob Van Es’ crash in his Thomas the Tank Engine kart last May.
To raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance, who airlifted Rob to hospital, Apple Taylor has organised a special screening of the documentary at the Fortescue Arms on Saturday, February 27.
Rob will be the guest of honour and many other karters from the famous event will be there, as will Apple’s own pasties and nibbles. The Fortescue Arms are providing the nibbles and there will be a collection for the Devon Air Ambulance.
Rob was left with a broken rib and concussion after the crash last year, but was full of praise for the event and the organisers and at the time put his crash down to ‘the wrong sort of leaves on the line’.
There will be photos of previous Whacky Races and a bit of reminiscing about the event. The Whacky Film Night will start at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome.
