A WALK from Slapton to Salcombe is being organised in July to support mental health charity MIND.

Ian Blackwell, a regular walk leader for the South Devon AONB and co-ordinator of The Dangerous Dads Network, is teaming up with local artist David Harbott to walk part of the South West Coast Path on Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10, for mental health charity MIND, and you are invited along too.

Ian explains: ‘This is a meander rather than a hike, and not very far, about 14 miles over two days. This is a public event and people are invited for an enjoyable coastal walk along a wonderful stretch on the South West Coast Path and some green lanes. We will be walking from Slapton to Salcombe.

‘We want to have a wander, so there is no rush, about seven miles each day. We will stop to take in the view, to chat and eat, and to explore the natural environment around us. We will also stop to meet people who live and work along the coast.

‘Although there will be opportunities to learn about the geology, archaeology and natural history of this beautiful area, this is not a traditional guided walk. We won’t be striding along but taking it more leisurely.?‘You will sleep under the stars (not in a tent). There will be opportunities to chat, be creative, draw, play, cook on the beach, catch a ferry and swim in the sea but you do not take part in anything you do not want to. It will be a chance to unwind too from the stresses of everyday life.’?Places are limited and money raised will go to the charity MIND and organisers are asking for a donation of £40 per person. The walk is open to all adults - young people aged 14-18 can attend but must be accompanied by an adult – and the event is not suitable for younger than 14-years-old. Ian continued: ‘You can bring food or buy provisions or meals at the villages along the route. When people contact us, we will of course supply a full list of what to bring and what to expect- above all it will be a fun weekend wander.’
