The Devon Rural Archive will be running the third in its series of specialist building days next Monday.
Entitled “Understanding and Maintaining the Architecture of Local Building Types”, the talk will be held on Monday, June 26, from 10am to 4pm.
The programme will include a series of talks on subjects including: Architectural typologies, indigenous building material and constructional systems; traditional cob buildings of Devon; the southwest weather and its effect on traditional buildings; the importance of a maintenance regime and approaches to repair.
Speakers will include conservation architect Linda Watson, former county historic buildings adviser Peter Child, geologist and geotechnical engineer David Clark and conservation specialist Dr Bruce Induni.
“The specialist building day is part of a programme the DRA is running to help owners of historic and traditional buildings understand how they can look after their properties better,” explained Abi Gray, Resident Archaeologist at the DRA.
“As well as being very practical, the sessions may also serve as Continuous Professional Development and support professional accreditation in conservation.”
