John Carpenter, of Salcombe, writes:
Following your report on the flooding and litter problems in Salcombe, Gazette, September 9, what a typical, complacent response from South Hams Council in shifting the blame to Devon County Council. What a cop-out.
This highlights the value of Chad, our diligent street cleaner who puts the interests of Salcombe, it’s residents and its visitors first. Not for him the pettiness of council officials who are more concerned with their demarcation regulations, Chad showed a dedication to the town’s well-being sadly lacking in these officials, who are more concerned with ticking the correct boxes.
We are told they are to conduct a review in October into the road-sweeping situation. Why don’t they save themselves the trouble – we all know what the solution is: bring back Chad.
